The Gränsfors Sharpening Stone is comprised of ceramic abrasive with a grain structure developed to best supply the needs of coarse and fine grinding. The coarse, 180-grit side is used for repairing damage from hard wear, whereas the finer, 600-grit side is used for fine grinding. The grain structure of the stone makes it both tough and long-lasting. As opposed to a natural stone, a ceramic sharpening stone can be made to have a more precise grain size. The stone has a round, flattened shape with bevelled edges to give a round transition. The fine side makes up 2/3 of the thickness, as this is the side that usually wears the most. The stone is normally used with water, but can also be used dry. The Sharpening stone features a rubber case. Gränsfors Bruk offers three different sharpening products that are all relatively similar to each other: Sharpening Stone, Diamond File, and Natural Whetstone. The main difference between these products is the material, but both the grit size and shape of the products differ as well. Choosing the right product comes down to individual opinion and taste.

Gränsfors Bruk

Over more than 100 years, Gränsfors Bruks AB has built up a business based around handcrafted axes and axe expertise, with a focus on quality and environmental responsibility. Today, 30 people work here in production and sales. 80 percent of the production is exported to 30 countries.

When it comes to the quality and feel of the axes, much depends on the experience and skill of the individual craftsman. Each axe is signed with the smith’s initials as a guarantee of quality.

The company is located in the Swedish village of Gränsfors in northern Hälsingland, around 10 km west of the E4 motorway, between Hudiksvall and Sundsvall. The forge sits at the heart of the village and you can hear the rhythmic pounding as you approach.

The axe forge is open weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm. You are more than welcome to visit us and see our axes being forged, sharpened, tempered and fitted with handles.

In addition to the forge and a factory shop, there is also an axe museum and during the summer a restaurant, café and craft courses in subjects such as forging and log-building.
