Wood Jewel
Wood Jewel was founded in the early 80's. Owner and CEO Kauko Raatiniemi started it as a side line job. He first made big items like clocks from goat willow gnarl. At the start of 1990, Kauko made it a full time job. The first worker came on board in 1995, and today the company employs about 20 employees all year round.
The main materials used for Wood Jewel products are Finnish curly birch, reindeer horn, and coloured plywood.
We have over 1000 different kind of items, and majority of them are knives. Towards the end of the 80's, Kauko made his first knives and a collector bought all! At the start of 2000, Kauko's son, Tuomas Raatiniemi started making knives. Today we make about 50,000 knives/year.
Our knives are made to be used. We pay attention to blade material, shape of handle and how the knife fits the sheath. We also make designed knives for gifts.
Our products can be found in our shops Kolari, Äkäslompolo (Ylläs), and Levi. Resellers can also be found all around Finland, and in other countries such as Norway, Sweden, Russia, Japan, England, etc.
